Types of braces
There are many different types of braces. Dr. Chenard can determine which type is best suited for your bite and treatment plan. The different types are described below:
Clear or ceramic braces
Clear braces are tooth-colored and less visible than traditional metal braces. The wire is the only part that can be seen.
Traditional twin metal braces
This is the most popular and most common type of braces. This is normally the “go to” type of braces for most orthodontists. They are easy to work with and have a high level of adjustability which means that it’s easier to give a more precise result at the end of treatment. Colored ties are changed at every visit-about every 6 weeks. These colored “o-ties” hold the wire in the bracket and provide the color for the braces.
Self-ligating braces (Damon, Innovation, Speed system, etc)
These self ligating braces use a metal “door” to hold the wire in. This results in less friction which can result in quicker tooth movement. A possible disadvantage to these braces is that the finishing process may take longer due to less ease of adjustability of the bracket system. Dr. Chenard will determine if self-ligating braces are a good option for your bite issue.
